To qualify at the GS-05: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-4) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
NOTE: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Substitution of Education for Experience (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED): I possess 4 years of additional education above high school.
To qualify at the GS-06: You must have (1) one full yearof specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 level. This experience is in or close to the work of this position, that has given me the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of a Program Support Assistant (Office Automation) full performance level. Examples of specialized experience include but is not limited to providing a variety of administrative, and clerical services regarding eligibility, income screening, release of information, means testing, copayment requirements, and billing and payment requirements; applying a thorough knowledge of medical record forms and formats; independently planning, organizing and completing assigned tasks and making decision regarding priorities for fluctuating workload and changes in workload; operate and use a variety of office automation equipment to include a personal computer or computer terminal, copy machine, fax, calculator, scanner, shredder and other office equipment.
There is no education substitution for the GS-06 level.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
